Production

Practising

This is my first attempt of making my website on Wix. I have included two example photos of my photography on this page as well as my social media handles in the footer of the page - I have done this so that my audience or potential clients will be able to get in touch with me or see other work that I have done (for example, I have linked my first blogger so that they can see the detail that I go into and what subjects I have researched/ have skills in).

Actual Production

This is the start of my website creation. I have deleted all of the information that is not relevant or mine, this allows me to fill in the information freely without getting confused or when it comes to publishing, I don't accidentally have unrelated text that makes no sense. It also gives me a perspective of how much of my website I have left to complete/ fill in.
This is the banner that I plan on use on my website, it has the logo in the left corner alone with my name and then I have five pages that the audience can click on.

In Wix, I am able to edit the pages to display, look and reach how I want the too. I am also able to add aspects such as widgets, apps and create advertisements to promote my website. Similar to this, there are other menu's where I can change the settings and manage the views of every aspect that I include on my website, this means that I am able to personalise the aspects to tailor them to fit my website perfectly.

Using the widgets provided by Wix, I was able to create a background for my Tutorials segment on my homepage. I used some Polaroid photos to symbolise photography, a computer to symbolise editing and a old-school camera to symbolise my cinematography work. I used these widgets because when the viewer looks at them, they are able to determine the significance behind them, which means that the will know what to expect when looking at my tutorials.

This is what my website will look like on the mobile. I decided to make my website accessible and working on mobile because 4.68 billion people use mobile phones on a day-to-day basis. And in 2018, 88% of all homes have one or more computers.

(Mobile phone users worldwide 2015-2020, 2019)

This is my finished homepage, where everything is filled in and has the appropriate colours that my audience said that they liked the most (black, white and grey). However, I added two more pages to appeal to a wider audience. For example, I had put audio work in with cinematography, but adding a audio & sounds page allows me to appeal to potential clients that are looking for audio creators/ editors. As well as this, I have added a articles page so that I can write in more depth about my experiences with clients and other aspects that I would like to share with my audience.
I have changed where the picture of my desk is in favour of adding a video that is my showreel. I believe that this is more captivating to my audience as they will press on my home page and will instantly see my showreel (which is also used as a CV), they will also see that I am professional enough to have a showreel.

This page is dedicated to writing about aspects of media, such as how to set up a camera, how to work the focus & contrast & zoom on cameras etc. This will not only allow my clients to see what skills I have but will also allow learners and other visitors to my site to learn more information.
This is where I will be able to share my photography by using tags such as 'portraits' and 'urban'. All of these photos of mine, which means that my potential client can look at these photos and see that I have experience in:
  • mug shot photography, which conveys professionalism and working life
  • product photography, which means that I can edit and make products look good enough to sell
  • urban photography, which means that I can work in open environments, lots of space and built-up areas
  • wildlife photography, which means that I am patient enough to wait for the wildlife to approach me to get the best quality photos of these animals

I am so far surprised with how well my website is turning out at the moment as I feel that I have made a lot of progress considering that I had never used Wix at the beginning of this project, I wouldn't say that I know everything about Wix now as there is still definitely a lot more to learn, but I have definitely gained enough skills to make a convincing professional, appropriate and successful website if I need to in the future.

Given this fact, there was definitely aspects that where challenging while creating my site. The biggest thing was finding the existing apps to add that where related to my site and also working out the widgets and aspects such as photo albums and portfolio's.

Short Evaluation of Production

During the creation of my website, I used multiple skills that helped me create my final product, such as website design, photography, cinematography and creative writing. Altogether, I feel that my finished product went to plan, not much changed; I added a few things to make my final product stronger - such as the print advert and the short showreel. Even though my showreel had quite low quality, I was proud of the idea and how it added to my website. If there was one thing that I could have done differently, I would have created my own template to make my whole website entirely unique instead of creating it around a pre-existing one. Now that I think about it, I would also have planned my showreel earlier in the project as then I could have improved the quality by gathering better footage.

  1. Perhaps you should explore shoreel of photography companies and cinematographers. Edit this and then use as a VT. You can use these clips for slides/animations for your site too. e.g. https://vimeo.com/157987018. Portfolio of client photography e.g. watches will be linked to on your site. Wix authoring today and tomorrow.

    1. To develop this further you may want to screen record you navigating your site and accompanying this with a voice over - explaining your creative choices and how you have implemented your research.

The site it's self is very well done and demonstrates good understanding of a multitude of media process.

  2. Your website is very well laid out and easy to navigate, it looks professional and all the information presented is well thought through and kept short to keep the audience's attention. On the home page you have a looped video which shows the customer editing, cinematography etc. I really like the idea however, not all the clips used are good quality, so perhaps think about re shooting some of the shots if possible.
